September 5, 2022: Liz Truss has been named leader of the governing Conservative Party and Britain's next Prime Minister on Monday. Truss, Foreign Secretary of UK won by 81,326 votes defeating ex-chancellor Rishi Sunak who polled 60,399 votes. Truss would succeed Boris Johnson at 10, Downing Street.
On Tuesday, Truss will travel to Scotland to meet Queen Elizabeth, who will ask the new leader to form a government.
She would assume power at a time when the country faces a cost of living crisis, industrial unrest and a recession.
