August 29, 2023: The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday suspended the three-year prison sentence of Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, in the Toshakhana corruption case. The authorities have directed to release former PM on bail.
The former PM was convicted on charges of illegally selling state gifts during his period of time (2018-22). The case was filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Pakistan Police arrested him from his Lahore's Zaman Park residence immediately after the announcement by the court as he was not appearing in court for the hearing.
Imran Khan had filed an appeal in the court against his conviction and approached the Supreme Court against the IHC’s decision to remand the case back to the trial court judge.
However, the former minister will continue in judicial remand until he is presented before a special court on August 30 in connection with the cypher case.
