May 17, 2021: Andrea Meza from Mexico has been crowned as the 69th Miss Universe.



This year, the pageant was held in Miami, Florida's Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood.



Andrea was preceded by Miss Universe Zozobini Tunzi of South Africa.





Andrea had to compete with 73 other gorgeous women from all over the world. She made it to the Top 5 along with Miss India, Miss Brazil, Miss Peru, and Miss Dominican Republic.



Speaking about changing beauty standards, she said that we have advanced as a society and stereotypes. Nowadays, beauty isn't confined to how you look. Beauty radiates what's in our hearts. 'Never let someone tell you that you aren't valuable,' she added.



Andrea, who is a software engineer by profession has been advocating against gender violence. With her victory, Andrea becomes the third Mexican woman to be crowned as Miss Universe.



Last year's pageant had to be postponed due to the ongoing pandemic.
