March 8, 2025: International Women’s Day 2025 is celebrated today, March 8, 2025, with the theme “For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”

The day is a call to action for transformative change, emphasizing the importance of upholding women’s rights, promoting gender equality, and empowering women and girls worldwide. It’s also a celebration of the progress made towards gender equality, while acknowledging the challenges that still need to be addressed.

In India, however, there are actually two significant days dedicated to women. International women’s day is celebrated globally on March 8, whereas National Women’s Day in India is observed on February 13, to mark the birth anniversary of Sarojini Naidu, often called as “Nightingale of India”. This day honours her contribution to women’s empowerment and the country’s freedom struggle.

In Guwahati, International Women’s Day 2025 is being celebrated at the Regional Meteorological Centre. The 5 days long celebration started on March 3.
