More water on Moon? Chandrayaan-3 reveals some exciting news

March 7, 2025: India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission; launched by ISRO has made some exciting discoveries about the Moon’s surface

Research based on data from the mission suggests that ice deposits may be more widespread near the Moon’s poles than previously thought. The study, published in “Communications Earth and Environment”; found that temperature fluctuations on the lunar surface can influence ice formation, providing insights into the Moon’s geological history.

The dramatic temperature variation ranges from 82 degree Celsius during daytime to -170 degree Celsius at night.

The mission landed on the Moon’s south pole on 23 August 2023. The landing site was later named as “Shiv Shakti Point”.

The presence of ice deposits near the Moon’s poles could serve as a vital source for future human exploration. These discoveries mark a significant milestones in India’s lunar exploration program.
