June 24, 2021: The Gauhati High Court on Thursday rejected the plea of former DIG PK Dutta, one of the prime accused in last year’s Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam of Assam Police.

He was arrested by West Bengal Police on October 6, 2020 from Kakarbhitta along the Indo-Nepal border.

Dutta has been kept at the CID headquarters in Ulubari, Guwahati.

Over 47 people have been arrested for their involvement in the SI question paper leak case including a BJP leader Diban Deka.

Dutta and ruling Bharatiya Janata Party leader Diban Deka were arrested for assuring jobs to many candidates in lieu of cash. Deka is alleged to have procured the question paper ahead of the written test.

It has been learnt that the retired DIG has been suffering from cardiac problem and his oxygen level has dropped.

The Assam government had cancelled a written exam to recruit 597 sub-inspectors to the state police force after the question paper was leaked.
