Indian Army Unveils 'Eklavya' Digital Platform to Revolutionize Officer Training

November 29, 2024: The Indian Army has launched a new digital platform called Eklavya to enhance the training and professional development of its officers. The platform was inaugurated by Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi on Thursday as part of the Army’s ongoing transformation efforts. This initiative aligns with the Army's vision for a Decade of Transformation and its theme for 2024, the Year of Technology Absorption.

The Eklavya platform has been developed under the guidance of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) with sponsorship from the Army War College. It was created at zero cost through a collaboration with the Bhaskaracharya National Institute of Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BISAG-N), Gandhinagar, and the Directorate General of Information Systems. Hosted on the Army Data Network, the platform features a scalable architecture that enables the integration of various training establishments across the Army.

Currently, Eklavya hosts 96 courses offered by 17 Category 'A' Training Establishments of the Indian Army. The platform allows officers to register for multiple courses simultaneously, offering flexibility and accessibility throughout their service. The courses are designed to enhance the professional capabilities of officers by providing an extensive range of learning opportunities in both foundational and specialized areas.

A key feature of Eklavya is the inclusion of preparatory material for physical courses, shifting the foundational learning to an online format. This allows the physical training sessions to focus more on contemporary content and practical applications, thereby increasing the overall effectiveness of the training. The platform also includes courses tailored to specific appointments or assignments, allowing officers to acquire specialized knowledge relevant to their roles. These courses help officers gain the skills needed to function efficiently in specialized positions that require on-the-job training.

One of the most significant aspects of Eklavya is its flexibility. Officers can now register for online courses at any point in their service, independent of their physical course nominations. This offers a new level of autonomy in learning and ensures that officers are always up to date with the latest advancements in military strategies and technologies.

The launch of Eklavya marks a major step in the Indian Army’s embrace of digital transformation. By leveraging technology, the Army is equipping its officers with the tools needed to stay at the cutting edge of modern warfare and military tactics.
