November 29, 2024: In a significant boost to Assam’s tourism sector, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Central government has approved approximately ₹200 crore for the development of two iconic tourist sites in the state. The funding, granted under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme, will be allocated to Rang Ghar and the Assam State Zoo.
The announcement was made on Friday through a post on Chief Minister Sarma's official Facebook handle. He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for their support in enhancing Assam’s tourism infrastructure. This financial assistance is expected to improve the facilities at these heritage sites and attract more visitors to the region. The funds will help in modernizing infrastructure, improving accessibility, and creating sustainable tourism experiences at these destinations.
The initiative is seen as part of the state government's broader efforts to strengthen Assam’s tourism industry, which has the potential to contribute significantly to both the local economy and the state’s cultural preservation.
