November 24, 2021: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called a meeting of Assam and Mizoram Chief Ministers tomorrow (November 25) in New Delhi to discuss and find a solution to the long pending border dispute between the two states.

The border dispute has been there for almost 150 years since colonial times. The dispute stems from a notification of 1875 that differentiated the Lushai Hills (Mizoram) from the plains of Cachar (Assam), and another of 1933. Assam and Mizoram share a 165 km long border now.

There have been flare-ups along the Assam-Mizoram border, the most recent being the violent clashes on both sides that left 5 policemen dead and several other policemen and civilians injured.
