February 3, 2023: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the police have arrested 1,800 persons in connection with child marriage-related cases across the state so far.

However, Assam CM has asked the police to continue the operation with the spirit of zero tolerance.

Taking to Twitter, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “State wide arrests are presently underway against those violating provisions of Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.

1800 + have been arrested so far.

I have asked @assampolice to act with a spirit of zero tolerance against the unpardonable and heinous crime on women”.
