January 12, 2022: Army Chief General MM Naravane said on Wednesday that the overall security situation has improved and is under control and the terrorist activities in the region that has an international border with Myanmar, Bangladesh and China has been “curtailed”.



“In the Northeast, the overall situation is under control. The robust security posture has significantly curtailed the operations of terrorists. Keeping with the improved situation there has been a graduated de-induction of army unit,” the Army Chief said addressing a press conference in New Delhi.

Stating that the Indo-Myanmar border continues to be an important “asset” for the Indian Army, the Army Chief said, “The India-Myanmar border is an important asset of our security calculus. New impetus is being given to the border guardian role by the Assam Rifles and there we do intend to progressively increase the number of Assam Rifle battalion. ”
