December 6, 2021: The Nagaland police have lodged a suo moto FIR against the 21st Paramilitary Force over the firing incident that took place in Mon district on Saturday, December 4 night. Thirteen people – 12 civilians and one jawan – were killed in the firing.

The FIR states that since the operation was carried out without any intimation or requisition for a local police guide, the intention of the security forces was to "murder and injure civilians."

“On Dec 4, 2021 at around 3.30 pm, coal mine labourers of Oting village were returning to their native village from Tiru at a vehicle Bolero Pick Up (va). On reaching Longkhao between Upper Tiru and Oting village, security forces blankly open fired at the vehicle without any provocation resulting in the killing of many villagers and seriously injuring many others."

"It is to be noted that at the time of the incident, there was no local police guide nor did the security forces requisition to police station to provide police guide for their operation. Hence, it is obvious that the intention of security forces was to murder and injure civilians," the FIR states.
