March 4, 2025: An illegal alcohol manufacturing unit at Barapani was busted in a joint operation by Kamrup metro excise department and Meghalaya excise department. Following a tip off, a truck (AS-11-AC-9144) with 10,000 labels of an Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) brand of whiskey was recovered at Khanapara, and that’s when the illegal manufacturing unit was unfolded.
It was the driver of the truck who upon being questioned during interrogation, revealed about the Barapani manufacturing unit.
Assam excise commissioner Jitu Doley said that busting of such illegal manufacturing units prevents revenue leakage.
The joint team of Assam and Meghalaya has seized more than 3000 cases of IMFL from the truck that were marked for sale in the two states, blending and ENA vats, rotary capping machine, labels of different brands of IMFL, empty bottles of different brands, holograms of Assam and Meghalaya, along with many other things.
The Assam team was led by Kamrup (metro) excise department superintendent Debajit Nath.
