August 11, 2023: Tension erupted in Manipur again after a fresh violence broke out between Meitei community protesters and police personnel at Jiribam district on Thursday.

Reportedly, police lathi charged and used tear gas to disperse the protesters. Few CRPF jawans including some protesters were injured in the violence.

According to reports, hundreds of women came to protest in areas where Section 144 was imposed. Around two women were injured in the lathi charged.

The clash between Metei and Kuki communities started from May 3 after the Manipur High Court asked the state government to consider adding the former, the majority community in the state, to the list of Scheduled Tribes. Over 100 people have lost their lives and 60,000 were displaced since the clashes broke out between the communities in Manipur.
