Drug Manufacturing Unit Busted in Manipur, Brown Sugar Worth Rs 90 Crore Seized

September 1, 2021: Manipur Police on Wednesday busted a brown sugar manufacturing laboratory which was running at the residence of a policeman at Yairipok Tuhihal in Manipur’s Imphal East district.



The policeman identified as one Md. Mujibur Rahman, 42 years old, was serving as head constable at Tamenglong district.





At around 1.30 PM, a combined team of narcotic cell and a commando team of Thoubal Police raided Mujibur’s residence in presence of Executive Magistrate of Imphal East.



The police action was taken up under the supervision of Superintendent of Police N. Herojit.



Speaking to media persons, Herojit said, an Opium of 430 kg contained in 11 Bags and refined Brown Sugar of 40 Kg contained in three bags were recovered.





The team also recovered items used in manufacturing the drug such as 2 Kg of Ammonium Chloride and 250 litres of liquid for refining Brown sugar among others.



The team also seized one police ID-card, One Nokia phone and one silver colour Bolero Jeep. The drugs are estimated to be around Rs 90 crore in the international market value.



Mujibur was arrested and he disclosed to the police that one Md. Hero from Thoubal district is the distributor of the refined Brown Sugar and another Md. Firoj from Yairipok is the transporter of the raw materials and Mujibur Rahman is the manufacturer.





Later, Firoj was then arrested from his residence.



The arrested persons along with the seized articles are being handed over to Andro Police Station for taking up necessary legal action against them, the SP informed.
