Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika, Spl DGP GP Singh has rushed to Lailapur. Over 65 Assam Police personnel are injured in the clashes

July 26, 2021: The Assam-Mizoran border tension took a gory turn this evening, after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed and condoled the death of 6 Assam Police jawans who were injured during the violent clashes at Lailapur along the Assam-Mizoram border.
According to reports, Cachar SP Nimbalkar Vaibhav Chandrakant suffered bullet injuries and his SPO is among those dead.
Cachar DC vehicle is reported to have been vandalised during the violence.
Assam Minister for Water Resources Pijush Hazarika and Special DGP G P Singh has rushed to the spot. DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta would be reaching tomorrow.
Violence continues in the border area even as over 65 police personnel and several civilians were injured and at least 50 people have been admitted at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
The situation is extremely volatile and tense.
Tension flared up after Assam Police demolished a police post of Mizoram police that was built in Assam land. Mizoram Police opened fire but Assam Police did not retaliate as there were a lot of civilians from the Mizoram side and any firing from the Assam side would have resulted in hurting Mizo civilians.
Earlier in the day, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga posted videos of violence along the border and accused Assam of manhandling a Mizo couple going to Mizoram via Cachar.
Both CMs were involved in a war of words. Assam CM Sarma has requested Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene.
