November 29, 2021: The Winter Session of Parliament will begin today, November 29 and is scheduled to end on December 23. During the session, 26 bills will be listed for introduction. This includes the Farm Laws Repeal Bill and the Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill.

A report of the Joint Committee of Parliament on the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019, will also be tabled in the two Houses during the session. But on the first day of the session, the contentious farm bills will be placed for repeal as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this month. The three laws will be tabled by Union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar.

The Opposition is likely to raise the farmers’ demand for a law on minimum support price for crops. The ruling BJP and main opposition party Congress have issued whips to their MPs to be present on the first day of the session.

The government is considering tabling a proposal for the suspension of 20 Opposition MPs who created a ruckus in the House the last time it functioned during the Monsoon Session, sources said.

On August 11, several Opposition MPs climbed on the officials' table, waved black cloth and threw files when the House began a discussion on farmers' protest against new reform laws. Many stood on the table where the parliamentary staff sits right below the chair, while others crowded around it shouting anti-government slogans.
