February 27, 2025: Pune Police have intensified their manhunt for Dattatraya Ramdas Gade, the accused in the brutal rape of a 27-year-old woman inside a parked bus at Swargate Bus Stand. To expedite his capture, authorities have announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for any information leading to his arrest.
Gade, 36, has a criminal history with at least six cases of theft, robbery, and chain-snatching registered against him in Pune and Ahilyanagar district. Despite this, he had been out on bail since 2019.
The heinous crime took place early Tuesday morning, between 5:45 am and 6 am, just 100 meters from a police station. The victim, a domestic worker, was waiting for a bus to her hometown in Satara when Gade approached her, addressing her as ‘didi’ (sister). CCTV footage captured the two walking towards a parked bus, where the attack occurred.
After the assault, the accused fled the scene, while the traumatised woman confided in a friend, who convinced her to report the crime.
In response, the police have formed 13 special teams, including eight from the Crime Branch, to track Gade. Officers have questioned his family, including his brother, and are monitoring railway stations and bus depots to prevent his escape. However, the delay in identification due to his face mask has complicated the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has come under fire for security lapses at the depot. The administration has replaced security guards and initiated an internal inquiry, with a report expected within a week.
As the search continues, authorities urge the public to provide any relevant information and ensure swift justice for the victim.
