March 8, 2025: On International Women's Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to 'Nari Shakti' and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to women's empowerment. As part of the celebration, he handed over his social media accounts to distinguished women achievers from various fields, allowing them to share their journeys and inspire millions.
PM Modi shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “We bow to our Nari Shakti on #WomensDay! Our Government has always worked for empowering women, reflecting in our schemes and programmes. Today, as promised, my social media properties will be taken over by women who are making a mark in diverse fields.”
Among those given the opportunity was Chess Grandmaster Vaishali Rameshbabu, the winner of the Women's Grand Swiss Tournament 2023 and elder sister of chess prodigy Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa. Taking to PM Modi’s X handle, she expressed her excitement, saying, “I am thrilled to be taking over our PM Narendra Modi Ji’s social media properties and that too on #WomensDay. I feel very proud to be representing our beloved country in many tournaments.” She also urged families to support girls in sports and other professional fields.
Nuclear scientist Elina Mishra and space scientist Shilpi Soni were also among the achievers who took over PM Modi’s social media accounts for the day. Encouraging more women to pursue science, they tweeted, “India is the most vibrant place for science, and thus, we call upon more women to pursue it.”
Elina Mishra, from Bhubaneswar, turned her dream into reality when she joined the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai. Meanwhile, Shilpi Soni, from Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, shared her experience of contributing to over 35 communication and navigation missions at ISRO following her stint at DRDO.
Entrepreneur Anita Devi from Nalanda, Bihar, was also among the women given this prestigious opportunity. She founded Madhopur Farmers Producer Company Limited, an initiative that has empowered hundreds of women through mushroom farming and agricultural services. “Through my company, I have not only secured a better future for my family but also created employment for hundreds of women, making them self-reliant,” she tweeted.
This is not the first time PM Modi has entrusted women achievers with his social media handles. A similar initiative was undertaken in 2020 when seven women achievers took over his accounts.
Through this initiative, PM Modi once again emphasized his government’s dedication to fostering women's empowerment and recognizing their invaluable contributions to the nation.
