Omar Abdullah Presents J&K’s First Budget in Post-Article 370 Era

March 7, 2025: In a significant development, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday presented the Union Territory's first budget since the abrogation of Article 370. This marks a historic moment in J&K’s governance, as the region moves forward in its new administrative framework.

Addressing the assembly, Abdullah expressed optimism about the Union Territory’s progress, stating that J&K is at the "threshold of a new era of peace and prosperity," with a renewed sense of normalcy emerging after decades of unrest.

During his budget speech, the chief minister acknowledged the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in various developmental sectors, highlighting their role in shaping the region’s economic and infrastructural growth.

The last budget session in J&K was held in 2018 under the PDP-BJP coalition government, before the region was reorganized into a Union Territory following the revocation of its special status on August 5, 2019. The presentation of this budget under Omar Abdullah’s leadership signifies a new chapter for Jammu and Kashmir, as it navigates its post-Article 370 future.
