March 8, 2025: A horrific crime was reported from Karnataka’s Koppal district, where a 27-year-old Israeli tourist and a local homestay owner were allegedly gang-raped by three men on Thursday night. The incident took place around 11:30 pm when the victims, along with three other travelers, were stargazing near the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal.
According to the police complaint, the accused approached the group on a motorcycle, initially asking for petrol and later demanding money. When the travelers refused, they were attacked, and the two women were sexually assaulted. Before targeting the women, the accused pushed three male companions into the canal. Two of them, Daniel from the United States and Pankaj from Maharashtra, managed to escape, but the third, Bibash from Odisha, is still missing.
The survivors immediately reported the crime, following which a case was registered under sections of rape, gang-rape, and robbery. The women are currently recovering at a government hospital, with the option to be shifted to a private facility if needed.
Superintendent of Police Ram L Arasiddi confirmed that two special teams have been deployed to identify and arrest the accused. "Immediate action was taken after the women lodged their complaint. The accused are being identified, and investigations are underway," he said.
Meanwhile, fire officials and a police dog squad are conducting an intensive search operation for the missing tourist. Authorities have assured swift justice, and the case has sparked outrage over tourist safety in the region.
