March 8, 2025: On the occasion of International Women's Day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the approval of the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, a scheme that will provide ₹2,500 per month to women in the national capital.
Addressing the media after a cabinet meeting on Saturday, Gupta stated, “Today is Women’s Day, and we had our cabinet meeting where we approved the scheme – a promise we made during the Delhi elections. This scheme will provide ₹2,500 per month to women in Delhi.”
To implement the scheme, the Delhi government has allocated ₹5,100 crore in its budget. The chief minister also announced the formation of a special committee under her leadership to oversee the process, adding that registrations will commence soon via an online portal.
The scheme was a key promise in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Sankalp Patra for the Delhi assembly elections, outbidding the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) proposal of ₹2,100 monthly assistance for women.
Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa further elaborated on the scheme’s rollout, confirming that a three-member committee, consisting of ministers Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood, and Pravesh Verma, has been formed to finalize eligibility criteria and other necessary details. “The scheme has been approved, and soon, the portal will be activated for women to apply. Detailed information about eligibility and application procedures will be provided shortly,” he said.
With the launch of the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, the Delhi government aims to provide financial empowerment to women, ensuring greater economic stability and independence.
