May 12, 2022: If you are looking for quieter yet overly adorable companions, options aren’t just limited to cats and dogs. With flexibility of hybrid work mode, the demands for pets are increasing. And, if you are not a dog or cat person, yet looking for a pal, a chirpy mate could be a great choice.

Since all birds can’t be kept as pet, here's a list of 5 exotic birds that are legal to keep at home in India.

Budgies

These birds are also known as parakeets and are native to Australia. Budgies are small in size and they belong to the parrot family. They are one of the most popular options as they are calm and easy to train.

Love Birds

Love birds, sometimes known as pocket parrots, are African originated birds. They are lively, charming, affectionate, curious, playful, and tenacious. With love birds, you can create a strong attachment. However, you must properly tame them because they might be hostile if not.

Cockatiels

Cockatiels were initially discovered in 1770 on Australia’s northen continent, and they come in a variety of colour patterns. Originally, cockatiels had a grey body with a yellow face and an orange patch on their crown.

Parrotlet

If you want a little and cherry friend in your dreary city life, bring home a parrotlet. These brightly coloured, happy, and loving birds can brighten your day. They’re cheerful, cute, lovely and easy to train. They are parrot family’s tiniest members.

Hyacinth Macaw

Without the Hyacinth Macaw, the list would be incomplete. As it’s nearly one meter in length, this cobalt bluebird falls into the large bird category. Everyone is drawn to it because of its colour.
