Timothee Chalamet to play ‘Young Willy Wonka’ in new origin film by Warner Bros

Actor Timothee Chalamet has been roped in to play world’s most famous chocolatier in the musical based on the early life of the fictional character Willy Wonka.

May 25, 2021: Warner Bros, along with Roald Dahl Story Co., has been developing the origin story of Willy Wonka for quite some time now. The search has reportedly ended as they have zeroed in on Actor Timothee Chalamet to play the role. 

According to several reports, Chalamet will be playing the world’s most famous chocolate maker in the musical based on the early life of the fictional character Willy Wonka. 

The Warner Bros. prequel film will explore the upbringing of a man who later went on to create the famous house of confectionary treats. 

Roald Dahl’s classic ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ follows a poor boy named Charlie Bucket, who  wins a golden ticket to tour the world-famous and heavily guarded chocolate factory run by one Willy Wonka. Since the upcoming movie takes place before the chocolate factory opened, Charlie and the company won’t be making an appearance in ‘Wonka’.

The production of the film is expected to begin in September, with the movie scheduled to release on March 17, 2023.

Paul King, popularly known for ‘Paddington’ and its sequel, is directing ‘Wonka’. David Heyman, a driving force behind the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise and the beloved ‘Paddington’ movies will be producing the film, based on a script by Simon Rich.
