September 22, 2021: Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rameshwar Teli inaugurated the Northeast region's first electric vehicle charging station in Guwahati on Wednesday. The EV charging station is located at a Lokhra petrol pump.



It takes just an hour to fully charge the vehicle and it can run for upto 300-400 kms.





The Assam State Transport Corporation has already taken initiatives to run electric buses and a few charging points have been set up places like Biswanath.

Under the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacture of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) scheme, ASTC has introduced five full AC electric buses in the second phase. Each bus runs on a 120 KW battery and needs two and a half hours of charging time, after which it can ride upto 120 kilometers. Charging stations are installed in ISBT, Betkuchi and ASTC Complex, Platanbazar. The route is to and fro from Kamakhya temple to Paltanbazar. 25 electric buses were introduced in the first phase.
