December 20, 2021: Continuing with its eviction drive and making Assam government land free from illegal encroachers, the Kamrup district administration informed on Monday, December 20 that an eviction drive would be done in the next 10 days in the Deepor Beel area of Guwahati.



Deepor Beel is a freshwater lake in south-west part of Guwahati. It is a well-known picnic spot. It has been designated as Ramsar Site in 2002 for conservation of the environment around the wetland.



The Assam government plans to develop the area as a tourist destination.



The state government has already carried out eviction drives in Gorukhuti in Sipajhar, Lumding and Laharijaan in Karbi Anglong.
