August 12, 2021: Assam pugilist Lovlina Borgohain who created history in Tokyo Olympics 2020, was awarded Rs.1 crore by Assam government on Thursday at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra  in Guwahati.



Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma felicitated Borgohain and handed over the cheque of Rs. 1 crore.





The Olympic Bronze Medalist reached Guwahati today at around 9.20 AM and was received by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and other dignitaries.



She received a grand welcome at the airport where while interacting with the press she expressed gratitude to the people of Assam for the support and immense love they showered on her during the Tokyo Olympics and helped in getting the bronze medal. While saying this she also got emotional and expressed grief that she could not bring gold to the state.



Lovlina who won a bronze medal at the recently-concluded Tokyo Games became the first Olympics medalist from the state and the third Indian boxer after Vijender Singh and legendary Mary Kom to win an Olympic medal.



Lovlina is now aiming at bettering the colour of her medal in the next Paris Olympics. She also dedicated her medal to the entire nation who rooted for her.
