Guwahati, Jun 26: It was a proud and happy moment for Home Guard Borsing Bey as he received the appointment letter from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday to join the Assam Police as a Constable.

Bey hit the headlines and caught the attention of all when on June 21 he refused to take a hefty bribe from drug dealers and helped the police confiscate drugs worth Rs 12 crore.

State Ministers Keshab Mahanta, Jogen Mohan, Atul Bora, UG Brahma, Deputy Speaker of Assam Assembly Dr Numal Momin and Chief Executive Member of  Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang were present at the event held in Guwahati.

The decision to appoint Borsing Bey as Constable in Assam Police was taken at the state Cabinet meeting that was held on June 24.

In a Tweet, CM Sarma expressed his pleasure in having appointed Bey as a Constable in Assam Police and said that Bey’s “exemplary deed” would “inspire others to rise above personal interests & work for greater cause of society”.

Bey was on duty on June 21 night when he intercepted a Guwahati-bound night super bus at a check-gate under Dillai police station in Karbi Anglong district and found the drugs. He was offered a huge bribe by the people who were carrying three kgs of crystal methamphetamine worth Rs 12 crore in the international market.

Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta too had rewarded Bey, who was attached to Dillai police station in Karbi Anglong district, with a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
