October 30, 2020: The common people, already crippled by Covid-19 lockdown, are facing tough situations due to the skyrocketing prices of vegetables.
No vegetable is available below Rs. 60 in the retail market of Guwahati. A Kilo of potato costs around Rs 45-50 while onion per KG costs Rs. 80. Similarly, other vegetables' prices too vary between Rs. 60-100.
While the prices in the wholesale market are not too high, the retail traders are forcing people to buy at much higher prices.
Surprisingly, the food and civil supplies department, the nodal department to monitor prices of essential items, has remained a mute spectators as the common people are crippled by this exorbitant prices.
