Guwahati: Uttara Bwiswmuthiary, a retired principal of Debargaon Higher Secondary School, has been honored with the esteemed Sahitya Akademi Award for Translation (2024-2025).

This prestigious recognition was conferred to her for the outstanding contribution to Bodo literature made by Bwiswmuthiary, particularly her remarkable translation of Anuradha Sharma Pujaree's Assamese novel "Kanchan" into the Bodo language.

Hailing from Kathalguri, near Kokrajhar town, Uttara Bwiswmuthiary is a distinguished educator and literary figure. Born to Birendra Lal Borgoyary and Dabashree Borgoyary, she completed her education at Kokrajhar Girls' HS School and Kokrajhar College.

Her teaching career spanned over several decades, beginning in 1983 at Salakati BTPS High School and later joining Debargaon Higher Secondary School in 1992, where she served until her retirement.

Uttara Bwiswmuthiary's literary contributions are vast and varied. She has authored several acclaimed books, including "Raikhwsa Fisa" (2006), "Haowasi" (2008), "Anthob" (2013), "Angroumwnda" (2009), and "Greetings Card" (2020).

Her work has been widely recognized, earning her the Ninakomal Brahma Award in 2017 for her short story collection "Raykhwsa Fisa." She was also honored with the Best Teacher Award by the BTC Education Department the same year.

Throughout her career, Uttara Bwiswmuthiary has held various notable positions, including editor of the Bodo Writers' Association, chairperson of the Bodo Women Writers' Association, and member of the Titaguri Primary Bodo Sahitya Sabha Trust.
