October 20, 2021: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is known for doing things differently. Be it his style of campaigning (he introduced dancing during campaign rallies which is now a common thing in most political rallies and caught on to leading politicians) or his way of reaching out to people (he had lunch with a bunch of youngsters because he had made a pre-poll promise to them while he was campaigning for the Assam Assembly elections, 2021, sitting in the middle of distressed ladies and men to hear out their woes etc). Today he yet again showed that he is a Chief Minister with a difference.
CM Sarma caught everyone’s fancy and startled many including his security personnel when he climbed through a bamboo barricade made to hold the public at a bypoll rally in Bhawanipur, Assam. Just like any commoner, CM Sarma bent down and climbed through the bamboo barricade. This must have definitely taken his security people by surprise unless they are by now used to CM Sarma doing things differently, most of the time steering away from protocol.
In the same event, CM Sarma was seen making his own lemonade on stage! CM Sarma was seen squeezing the lemon himself into a glass and then after mixing water he enjoyed the lemonade before his speech. He later on held the basket of lemons and told the people gathered for the election rally, “I am taking the lemons home. When people at home will ask me about by today’s work, I will give them the lemons, my today’s income”. The entire crowd burst out in laughter. No wonder CM Sarma is fondly referred to as Mama (maternal uncle).
