May 24, 2022: It was a tragic Tuesday for Assam. The state woke up to reports of as many as 11 deaths due to several tragic incidents in different parts of the city.
Sipajhar
Morning walk turned into tragedy in Sipajhar. Seven people including few women were hit by a speeding truck killing five people and injuring two. The incident took place at Sipajhar’s College Chowk where the seven people were doing their morning walk. Three people died on the spot and two died on the way to hospital. Two were severely injured and have been admitted at GMCH.
Kaliabor
In another road accident, two persons including a woman died and five persons were injured after an auto rickshaw hit a Magic van in Kaliabor’s Hatibandha.
Hatigaon
Triggering sensation, an Imam of Guwahati’s Hatigaon Moque was killed by a dacoit on Monday night. The dacoity took place at the house of an engineer who is out of station. The Imam was staying in the house as the temporary caretaker for the period the engineer is away.
Chadrapur
A body of a youth was recovered from Brahmaputra River today. Nishit Sen who hails from Chandrapur had gone missing since Saturday after he went for fishing in the river. The locals noticed his body floating in the river. The body was later recovered by the police.
Cachar
A person’s body was found in Cachar’s Udharbond on Tuesday. This man too had gone fishing and is suspected to have got swept away by strong currents in the river. The deceased has been identified as Rampati Rabi Das.
Chirang
A farmer was killed in an elephant attack in Chirang’s Bijni on Tuesday. The man, Achinta Narzary died on spot after an elephant crushed him to death.
