May 15, 2022: Badminton Association of India (BAI) has announced prize money of Rs 1 crore for the players and Rs 20 lakhs for the support staff after its historic win at the Thomas Cup 2022 on Sunday.

Taking to Twitter Assam CM and president of BAI Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “To celebrate this momentous occasion, on behalf of a grateful nation, @BAI_Media  is honoured to announce prize money of Rs 1 crore for our players and Rs 20 lakh for our support staff.

We look forward to several such national accomplishments in the coming months and years.”

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur also announced that the Indian Men's Badminton team will receive a cash reward of Rs 1 crore after it won its maiden Thomas Cup title beating Indonesia 3-0 in the 2022 finals.

Following the historic win, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur congratulated the whole team and announced the cash prize. Taking to Twitter, Anurag Thakur wrote, "HISTORYCREATED ! Congratulations to the Indian men’s badminton team for winning the Thomas Cup! This extraordinary feat, with successive victories over Malaysia, Denmark and Indonesia, calls for matching honour by the nation."

The Indian badminton team on Sunday (May 15, 2022) created history as they lifted the Thomas Cup trophy for the very first time.

In what was India's first-ever appearance in the tournament finale, they defeated the record 14-time champions Indonesia in the Thomas Cup 2022 final at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand by 3-0 to lift the coveted trophy.
