September 24, 2021: The death toll in Sipajhar Eviction Drive rose to 3 including one minor on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as - Saddam Husaain, Moinul Haque and Shekh Farid.

The eviction site at the Gorukhuti farm project in Darrang district turned into a battle field when hundreds of protesting encroachers, armed with sticks came charging at the security men who were present to ensure that the eviction drive was conducted properly and peacefully.

The incident took place on September 23 when villagers clashed with the police in No 3 Dhalpur area of Sipajhar in Darrang district of Assam.

Assam Police has arrested the official photographer identified as Bijoy Bania of Darrang DC’s office on Thursday evening.

The photographer was caught on camera punching and jumping on the chest of a man even as the man lay motionless on the ground. The man died.

At least 9 policemen were injured in the clashes and the police firing.
