Over 3000 Kids Test Positive for COVID in Assam; Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Dhubri Report Maximum Cases

June 28, 2021: In what can be termed as alarming, as many as 3030 children in three districts of Assam have tested positive for COVID.  Dibrugarh recorded 2,380 COVID cases among children while Dhubri reported 450 cases and Jorhat recorded 200 children getting affected by the deadly virus. Nine COVID positive children are undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.



So far, five deaths have been reported from the Assam the Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh. An 11 month old child is also reported to have succumbed to COVID in Dibrugarh.





The rising number of COVID cases among children below 18 years has sent the health department in the state into a tizzy prompting stricter implementation of COVID protocol and COVID curbs not just in the affected districts but across the state.

The spike in cases among children has once again highlighted the urgent need to get all those below 18 years vaccinated.



On Sunday, June 27, Dr NK Arora, Chairman of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) said that the Covid-19 vaccine developed for children above the age of 12 years by pharmaceutical company Zydus Cadila will be available by August. The trials are expected to end by July.





AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria said that the data of phase two and three trial of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for two to 18 years age group is expected by September. The vaccine should be available for children in India around that time following approval from the drug regulator.
