May 30, 2022: Ashiqul Islam, one of the masterminds of the Batadrava Police Station incident, died in Nagaon on Sunday night after being allegedly hit by a police escort vehicle while trying to escape from the custody.

The incident happened when the Nagaon Police returning from Ashiqul’s resident after a raid at his house followed which he jumped and hit by the vehicle.

On May 21, an enraged mob of villagers attacked a police station set it on fire after a youth died in custody in Assam’s Batadrava Police Station. Two of the policemen were injured in the attack. Three police vehicles were set on fire.

Earlier, Ashiqul was arrested by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for planning and preparing to set fire on the Batadrava Police Station.
