November 16, 2020: Mortal remains of Haradhan Chandra Rai, jawan of 59 Infantry regiment was given a tearful adieu on Monday morning.

Rai was martyred along with 4 others on Saturday during a ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control. His pyre was lit by his wife on the bank of Gauranga river in the presence of a large number of people who paid their last respects to the brave heart.

Minister Pramila Rani Brahma, BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass were those among present in the cremation ceremony.

His body was taken to his home in Bilasipara of Dhubri district on Sunday night. Earlier, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal paid tributes to the martyr at Basistha Base Camp on Sunday evening and announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 20 lakh to his family.
