November 30, 2021: Triggering sensation a leader of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) was killed and two others, including a journalist, were injured in Jorhat today in an attack, carried out by a mob of over 50 people.



The incident reportedly took place after a man was injured in a road accident.



The deceased namely Animesh Bhuyan, who hails from Dergaon from neighboring district Golaghat, had visited Jorhat for some purchase in the market but unfortunately, he and his friends became a victim of misunderstanding as the mob gathered to assist the accident victim.



According to reports, Bhuyan was in no way involved in the accident but the mob failed to understand this and attacked him and others.

The three injured were later rushed to a hospital but the doctors there declared Bhuyan dead on arrival.



10 accused have been arrested in connection with the lynching incident for killing Bhuyan, and the video footage is being used to identify the culprits involved in the mob attack.



Informing this Special DGP GP Singh tweeted, "Reference Jorhat incident - Till now ten persons have been arrested by @Jorhat_PoliceThe investigation shall be monitored at the highest level including @AssamCid @assampolice @mygovassam @CMOfficeAssam".
