October 30, 2020: Assam-Meghalaya cadre IAS officer Jishnu Baruah will be the next chief secretary of Assam. He will succeed Kumar Sanjay Krishna, who will retire on October 31.



Baruah, an IAS officer of 1988-batch is presently serving as additional chief secretary in charge of home and political; revenue and Disaster Management; secretariat administration (archives); border protection and development and implementation of Assam Accord.



Baruah's term will end on September 30, 2022.

The names of several IAS officers were considered for the post. 1986-batch Ravi Capoor was the frontrunner for the post. However, the government opted for Baruah.
