There are 197 candidates in the fray for 57 of the 60 GMC wards

April 21, 2022: Guwahati is getting ready to vote for the Guwahati Municiapal Corporation elections to be held tomorrow, April 22. Voting will be held for Voting for 57 of the 60 wards of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation in the 781 polling stations. This includes the 80 all women polling stations have been set up. Of the 60 wards, 50% are reserved for women candidates.  Voting will start from 7.30 AM and go on till 4.30 PM.



There are 197 candidates in the fray. BJP candidates have won from three wards – Wards 5, 6 and 22, unopposed.



Counting of votes will take place on April 24.



Clean, piped drinking, good roads, clean, garbage-free city, street-lights, flood-free streets, crime-free city are some of the things that the political parties are promising the people of Guwahati.



Voting will take place through EVM. However, 90 people are voting through the ballot and this voting is going on today at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre.

The BJP has fielded its candidate in 53 wards and left the remaining 7 wards for its ally AGP.



The Congress has fielded candidates in 54 wards, and in its manifesto, has promised drinking water to all households within 100 days, setting up of 100 vending zones for small businesses within 30 days, installing functional street lights and making the city flood and pollution-free.



Buoyed by its win in two municipal wards in Lakhimpur and Tinsukia districts, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has 40 candidates contesting the 60 GMC wards.



There are a total of 7, 96, 829 voters out of which 3, 96,891 are male voters and 3, 99, 911 are female voters. The number of transgender voters are 27.



The Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration has declared Dry Days till 4.30 PM of April 22 due to upcoming Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections. Counting day April 24 too has been declared Dry Day.
