November 8, 2021: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and eight others from Assam were conferred the prestigious Padma Awards on Monday, October 8.



The awards given in three categories - Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri; was awarded by President Ram Nath Kovind to 9 laureates from Assam.

The other 8 individuals from Assam to receive the Padma Shri are - Lakhimi Baruah, Birubala Rabha for Social Work, Gopiram Bargayn Burabhakat and Dulal Manki for Art, Mangal Singh Hazowary, Imran Shah for Literature and Education, Bijoya Chakravarty for Public Affairs and Roman Sarmah for Literature and Education-Journalism.



A total of 119 Padma awards were presented by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday morning. The list consists of seven Padma Vibhushan awards, 10 Padma Bhushan awards and 102 Padma Shri awards. 29 of the awardees are women, 16 are posthumous awardees while one of the recipients is a transgender awardee.



Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were among those present at the function. Padma Awards
