March 11, 2025: A tragic road accident occurred in Dimakuchi, Bhergaon, when a speeding Tiago vehicle (AS-01-FV-4887) lost control and crashed into a house in Shantipur. Fortunately, the occupants of the house, a family led by Kanai Karmakar, escaped unharmed.

According to reports, the vehicle was carrying foreign liquor from Bhutan, and the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The reckless driving resulted in the vehicle breaking through the wall of the house, causing panic in the area.

Of the two passengers in the car, one managed to flee the scene, while the other was critically injured and rushed to Udalguri Hospital by Dimakuchi police. The authorities have seized the vehicle and are investigating the matter.

Residents have raised concerns over the rising incidents of illegal foreign liquor smuggling from Bhutan. Many have alleged that smugglers use four-wheelers and motorcycles daily to transport liquor, evading the Excise Department’s surveillance. This illegal trade is believed to be contributing to the increasing number of accidents in the region.

Dimakuchi police acted swiftly to control the situation and have taken the seized vehicle to the police station. Further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Local citizens are urging authorities to take stricter measures to curb illegal liquor transportation and prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
