May 28, 2022: Assam Cabinet Minister Sanjay Kishan has been issued a show-cause by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for issuing an apology to banned outfit ULFA-I on 15 May, 2022. The apology came after the outfit issued a statement threatening to boycott him after his comment on the outfit on 13 May, 2022 in Nagaon.



The incident had sparked a row, with many concerned persons raising questions about the minister's gesture.



Sanjay Kishan, Minister for Tea Tribes and Employment in the cabinet of CMHimanta Biswa Sarma, was participating in a government event in Nagaon on 13 May when reporters asked him about the recent activities of ULFA-I. In response, the minister allegedly labelled Paresh Barua, the Commander-in-Chief of the outfit as “a liar”.

Taking offence, the group on 14 May sent an email statement to the media, threatening to ban him in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts and demanded an apology within 24 hours.



Next day the Minister tendered an apology through a press conference.
