On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Assam Government has honoured around 22 teachers from different districts of Assam for their outstanding contribution as teachers

Septembers 5, 2022: On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Assam Government has honoured around 22 teachers from different districts of Assam  for their outstanding contribution as teachers. The felicitation programme was held at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalashetra in Guwahati, Assam on Monday.



Teachers Day is celebrated to honour and felicitate the teachers as a mark of respect for the service they offer by moulding lives.



The teachers who were honoured today are-



Uday Shankar Gogoi of Dibrugarh, Aniruddha Phukan of Lakhimpur, Jagdish Chandra Sharma of Biswanath, Sujamuddin Ahmed of Goalpara, Chidananda Pathak of Golaghat, Bandana Hazarika and Sunil Koch of Dhemaji, Amarjyoti Borthakur and Manomohan Deb Nath of Sibsagarh district, Nripen Dutta of Nalbari district, Nirupam Nath of Cachar, Meenakumari Mandal of Bongaigaon, and Arun Chandra Nath of Darrang district.

Mohammed Yasin Ansari of Bongaigaon and Dashmukut Kewoot of Sonitpur district have received the meritorious teacher award in the upper primary section.



In the lower primary section, Saraswati Dutta and Mrigendra Kalita of Kamrup, Dipali Deka of Dibrugarh, Risu Ingti of Biswanath district, Kusum Hazarika of Darrang, Anjana Koch of Lakhimpur, and Jiten Das of Charaideo have received this year's meritorious teacher awards.



Teachers’ Day commemorates the birthday of India’s first Vice-President and second President of India, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Dr Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888 and every year his birthday is celebrated as Teacher’s Day to remember and celebrate Dr Radhakrishnan’s contributions towards the world of teaching. He was very popular among his students as a teacher and is always remembered as a philosopher and scholar besides being an astute statesman.



It is since 1962, September 5 that Dr Radhakrishnan’s birthday is being celebrated as Teacher’s Day.
