May 22, 2022: Kumud Gogoi, the Officer-in-charge of Batradava Police Station, has been suspended after primary investigation on the incident that took place on Saturday (May 21) where an enraged mob attacked the police station and set it on fire.



According to reports, reserve clause has been given to all the other remaining officers and jawans of the police station.



The incident happened after a youth allegedly died in custody in Assam’s Batadrava Police Station.



On Friday night (May 20), police had detained a youth namely Safikul Islam and had allegedly demanded a duck and cash of Rs. 10,000 from the youth. When the youth failed to comply with the demand the police reportedly attacked him. The dead body of the youth was recovered from the Nagaon Hospital’s morgue.



Two of the policemen were injured in the attack. Three police vehicles were set on fire.



Chiranjit Lahan has now been appointed as new OC of Batradrava Police Station.
