December 5, 2021: Assam reported its Omicron case in Sonapur in the outskirts of Guwahati. The youth who has become the first case is absconding. Health officials and police reached his village but could not find him.

The health department has arranged for the testing of all the other residents of the area in Moirakuchi, Digaru.

The youth was in Shillong when he tested positive for Omicron and he fled from there to his rented accommodation in Sonapur.
