December 10, 2021: Memorial functions were held across Assam to honour and pay respect to the 855 martyrs of Assam agitation that began in 1979 and ended in 1985 with the signing of the Assam Accord in 1985. The agitation was mainly against infiltration of Bangladeshis into Assam and Bangladeshi immigrants who have settled in Assam.  It was also to uphold the Assamese identity including Assamese language, culture and traditions.



Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma took part at the memorial function held in Morigaon.



Assam Gana Parishad organised a memorial function at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati. People of Morigaon paid respect to the families of the martyrs at a function held there.
