June 25, 2021: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday visited Bhuragaon in Morigaon district and met the family of the 9-year-old girl who has been allegedly raped and murdered. The body of the minor girl was recovered from a field in Balidong, Bhuragaon.



CM Sarma termed the incident as “unfortunate” and has assured that the people behind the “heinous crime” will not be spared. “We’ll not tolerate such atrocities,” the CM said adding, “Every life is precious!”





He took stock of the investigation into the matter and instructed Morigaon SP to expedite the investigation and bring the culprits to book.

CM Sarma was accompanied by Dilip Saikia, MP, Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deuri and Lahorighat MLA Dr Asif Mohammed Nagar.



Speaking to the media, Morigaon SP Aparna N said, “investigation is on. Prints and materials have been sent for forensic testing. Post mortem report is awaited”.





The deceased girl, who belonged to a minority community, was missing since Sunday.



Assam Police has so far not been able to detain any person in connection to the unfortunate incident.
