April 25, 2022: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has applauded Assam Police’s efforts in arresting 16 Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS)/ Ansarul Bangla Team men from different places of Assam.





On 5 March, 2022, Barpeta Police had arrested a Bangladeshi National along with members of AQIS. They were on a recruitment and training mission.



On 16 April, 2022 Assam Police had arrested six youths who were involved in Jihadi activities from the Barpeta district.

The youths have been identified as Mufti Suleman Ali (33), Zahidul Islam (39), Saddam Hussain (25), Musharf Hussain (27), Makibul Hussain (24) and Rashidul Islam (28),and  Barpeta SP Amitava Sinha.



Police had seized 15 mobile phone handsets along with 21 sim cards and some books in Arabic language from them.



On 24 April, 2022, one man identified as Syed Mohammad waz arrested from Bongaigaon. He too was involved in Jihadi activities. Many books related to jihad activities were seized from him.



Another man identified as Hamidul had escaped from the scene. Reportedly, Hamidul was secretly giving jihadi training.
