August 19, 2022: Krishna Janmashtami is a Hindu festival that marks the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu.

According to the Hindu calendar, Lord Krishna’s birthday is celebrated on eighth day of the month of Bhadra. The day mostly falls in the months of August or September as per the western calendar.

Lord Krishna was born in Mathura at midnight in jail when there was heavy rainfall outside, to Devaki and Vasudeva who was imprisoned by cruel Mathura king Kansa. Kansa was the brother of Lord Krishna’s mother.

So most of the pujas or naam-kirtan starts at the evening and goes on till midnight.
